AZL Open Day 2024: Innovations and insights into the future of lightweight technology

The AZL Open Day on April 11th, 2024 showcased the benefits of our location at the RWTH Aachen Campus, one of the largest high-tech ecosystems in Europe. The event provided AZL partner companies and external participants with exclusive insights into the latest developments in lightweight construction and composite technology.

Lightweight in Aachen
The Open Day featured presentations and tours from eight partner institutes showcasing their cutting-edge research and development:
  • Aachen Center for Integrative Lightweight Production (AZL) of RWTH Aachen University
  • Institute of Plastics Processing (IKV) in Industry and the Skilled Crafts at RWTH Aachen University
  • Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering (WZL) of RWTH Aachen University
  • Institute for Automotive Engineering (ika) of RWTH Aachen University
  • Institute for Structural Mechanics and Lightweight Design (SLA) of RWTH Aachen University
  • Welding and Joining Institute (ISF) of RWTH Aachen University
  • Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT
  • Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology IPT
As in previous years, the event registered strong participation from companies along the entire value chain. Even those who are familiar with the institutes find the Open Day valuable, thanks to the rich insights and numerous networking opportunities, for example at the Networking Lunch. One day ahead of the Open Day, all attendees were also invited to participate in the new AZL Workgroup “Future Mobility”, emphasize the potential for composites and multi-material solutions picking up insightful solutions and products for this market.
