High-Value Composites Transforming Aerospace & Security?

Lightweight, high-strength materials are transforming industries that demand maximum performance under extreme conditions. In sectors such as space and defence, where every kilogram matters and durability is mission-critical, advanced composites are unlocking new possibilities for design, efficiency, and sustainability. From satellites in orbit to next-generation defence systems, fibre-reinforced plastics (FRP) are increasingly seen as a strategic technology for the future.

Recognizing this momentum, AZL Aachen GmbH has initiated the “High Value Composite Applications – A Joint Market and Technology Study on Opportunities for Fiber-Reinforced Plastics in Space & Defence Applications.” This cross-industry Joint Partner Project brings together companies from across the composite value chain to explore and quantify the untapped potential of FRP solutions in these high-value, fast-evolving markets. With an approximate duration of nine months, the project is already underway, and interested companies can still join at any time to benefit from and contribute to its results.

The demand is clear: with over 50,000 satellites projected in orbit by 2035 and major global defence investments, the need for lightweight, modular, high-performance structures is growing rapidly. This project provides partners with a comprehensive market and technology roadmap, combining technical evaluations with actionable insights to support informed investment and product development decisions.

Structured as AZL’s Joint Partner Project, this pre-competitive, cost-shared initiative lets participants shape focus topics, contribute expertise, and leverage AZL’s experience in cross-industry collaboration. The project includes a technology review, identification of promising applications, and tailored market entry recommendations for FRP innovations.

Participation is still open, allowing new partners to join and gain immediate access to analyses, networking, and strategic discussions.
