The change of production systems within the media-effective Industry 4.0 will affect the composite manufacturing sector due to the enormous productivity-increase potential. In the article of the latest edition of JECmagazine #104, the Aachen Center for Integrative Lightweight Production (AZL) of RWTH Aachen University identifies opportunities and challenges of the Composite Industry 4.0.

The AZL of RWTH Aachen University links Industry 4.0-topics with its research activities and creates synergies through interdisciplinary holistic approaches between academia and industry.

Together with Schuler and Siemens as well as more industrial partners, the AZL addresses economic serial-production of components made of fiber-reinforced plastics through increased resource efficiency in “iComposite 4.0” – a research project funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).

Furthermore, Composite Industry 4.0 has also been the subject of this year’s AZL area on the JEC World exhibition.
